Even after all these years of teaching, there is still this one thing I have not mastered …saying good-bye. I keep trying to find the best way to honor the work we’ve done and the relationships we’ve nurtured for the last 180 days. Here is my attempt for the 2022-23 school year!

Summer calls!
I hear it in the craziness of the hallways
I see it as you cross off the days in your agendas
The tug of summer is tempting us away.
I begin packing up our classroom
Like I’ve done so many times before
I linger by the stories you wrote from your imaginations
Stories of struggle, fanciful lands, and crazy characters.
Your real story is just beginning, you know-
Who will you be? Where will you land?
Collect the chapters
As you walk through this life.
Savor the best parts,
Celebrate the triumphs,
Tuck away those funny moments–
The punchlines of a life.
Someday when you’re older (like me😉)
